Starigrad is a settlement and a small port on the coast of the Velebit Channel, near the Paklenica National Park, 45 km south of Karlobag. The settlement was first mentioned in Roman times and was built on the foundations of the ancient city of Argyruntum. Today, it is the center of the Paklenica Riviera, a 20 km long coastline where mountains and sea meet, making Starigrad interesting for both swimmers and hikers alike. In the hinterland of Starigrad lies the Paklenica National Park, which includes two canyons: Velika and Mala Paklenica. Through Velika Paklenica, which is about 10 km long, a stream flows, and the steep sides of the canyon reach heights of up to 400 m. Velika and Mala Paklenica are separated by a 500 m high plateau, 7 km long
